Our underwear for periods absorbs your flow, blocks out odor, wicks moisture, and prevents leaks — so you feel fresh, dry, and comfortable! No pads, tampons, or other period products are needed. Our period-absorbing underwear is washable and reusable — providing a more sustainable alternative to single-use disposable products.
Our absorbent styles hold from 1 regular tampon worth of flow to 5 regular tampons worth, so there is a style right for each day of your cycle. We recommend trying Thinx period-absorbing underwear for the first time at home to see how each underwear style works with your ~flow~.
The gusset positioning varies by style. For example, for our heavy & super styles, the gusset provides additional coverage throughout the front and back in order to catch heavier flows as the person moves, sleeps, etc. In styles that provide protection against lighter flows, the gusset isn’t positioned as far back, but still provides excellent leak protection.
Thinx period-absorbing underwear handles blood clots similarly to a pad. Although the undies can't absorb the blood clot itself, they will absorb the surrounding moisture so you will not feel damp, wet, or uncomfortable.
Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) is associated primarily with tampon use. Period-absorbing underwear is a safer alternative.
Our sustainable period-absorbing underwear is ultra-absorbent, odor-controlling, and moisture-wicking, designed to keep you fresh and dry. If your undies have not reached capacity, we recommend changing them once daily, as you would regular underwear. If your period begins to smell different (unusually fishy), that might mean something is amiss down there, and it might be a good idea to check in with your doctor.
Our period-absorbing underwear is 100% latex-free! Our elastane is composed of a long-chain polymer known as polyurethane, known in technical circles as a polyether-polyurea copolymer, used for having breathable and water-resistant qualities. Elastane is an entirely synthetic fabric; it does not exist anywhere in nature nor contains organic materials. So, no latex! However, a number of our styles do feature exposed elastic.
Yes! We don’t apply any perfume or fragrance to any of our materials. All of our products are fragrance-free!
Our absorbent underwear isn’t stain-proof, although the materials used in our absorbent gusset are largely stain-resistant. Plus, they’re lined in black to prevent stains from showing. To further prevent stains, follow the washing instructions on our How to Wash page.
Our period-absorbing underwear is made safely with fabrics like cotton, polyamide, modal, polyester, and elastane (for a little stretch!). Our underwear is not made or treated with PFAS.

We recommend following the hip measurement to find the most accurate size. Be sure to measure your hips at their widest point, derrière included! We recommend sizing up in underwear styles that fit below the natural waist, or if you're looking for the best fit postpartum. The underwear should fit snugly but not so tight that it becomes uncomfortable.
Our period-absorbing underwear styles range in absorbency levels, from lightest to super, so there is a pair for every phase of your flow! Our light and lightest absorbencies are great for spotting and days at the end of your period. For some, our moderate absorbency styles can be a replacement for disposable period products, and for others, they can be a backup to tampons or menstrual cups on heavier days. Heavy and super styles can completely replace other period products and can also be great for overnight use!
Our Modal Cotton collection is our most breathable, lightweight, and eco-friendly fabric yet, made with a fabric blend composed of TENCEL™ Modal and SUPIMA® Cotton. Our Modal Cotton styles also feature extended gussets in the front and back for extra leak coverage.
We used SUPIMA® cotton, sourced through the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI). BCI is a non-profit working towards improving global cotton production for the people who produce it and the environment it grows in. BCI owns and stewards the Better Cotton Standard System: a system that encompasses a diverse range of activities and stakeholders, including those in cotton production, through the supply chain to consumer-facing retailers and brands.
Our Modal Cotton collection is an excellent choice for those with sensitive skin. If you typically wear cotton, Modal Cotton should not irritate you, being that it is an all-natural fabric, and it should only get softer over time with washing. Another great choice would be our cotton Thinx for All™ collection.

Depending on your flow, Thinx replaces the need for disposable products, such as pads, tampons, liners, and cups. For most flows, Thinx can last all day! Others may need an extra pair of Thinx as a backup, just in case!
Every flow is different! You can wear Thinx underwear for periods for as long as your flow allows. The absorbency style also plays a factor, as some underwear styles are more absorbent than others.
When you start to notice blood at the seams, that's a good indication that it's time to change pairs! We suggest bringing along a resealable bag, pouch, or wet bag — so that if you need to change out of your first pair of Thinx undies, you've got a place to put them.
We recommend starting with 3-5 pairs, so you’re covered for your entire period without having to do extra laundry. We offer Saver Sets and Custom Set discounts so you can build your collection and get more for less. Take our Know Your Flow quiz to find which underwear styles work best for your flow!
We've heard from many parents in our community that they love wearing Thinx and Thinx for All Leaks underwear when their periods return postpartum! We've identified the styles from our collections best suited for this time and curated them into Postpartum Sets. Our undies provide leak protection you can trust when your period returns postpartum. Check with your doctor before using any new product. Learn more about how new parents use our underwear for life postpartum.
To get the best use out of your Thinx, we don’t recommend wearing these undies as a swimsuit or underwater. The purpose is to keep you fresh and dry!
Our sister brand, Thinx for All Leaks is designed specifically to absorb bladder leaks!

Our sustainable period underwear is super easy to care for. Machine wash the undies with the rest of your laundry on a cold cycle before first wear and after each use. Steer clear of fabric softener and bleach. Hang dry to keep your undies at maximum performance. Do not iron.
Machine-wash your Thinx on cold. The standard cold wash is 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit (15C - 27C). If you're hand-washing, the water should feel close to room temperature.
Yep! Washing our leak-absorbing underwear with your other laundry is perfectly hygienic, and your other clothes will be fine. Washing machines will dilute the contents almost immediately, and your other clothes will not stain if you're washing on cold.
We discourage using fabric softener because it breaks down the fabrics in the center panel of the underwear and the bonding around the seams, which helps absorb and keep leaks in. Over time, fabric softener will make the underwear less absorbent.
The drying time of our period-absorbing underwear depends on the style — moderate absorbency styles shouldn’t take longer than 10-12 hours to dry, and super absorbency styles shouldn’t take longer than 19 hours to dry under non-humid conditions. Drying times may be affected by humidity levels and the airflow of the space you hang them in.
Our absorbent underwear isn’t stain-proof, although the materials used in our absorbent gusset are largely stain-resistant. Plus, they’re lined in black to prevent stains from showing. To further prevent stains, follow our washing instructions.
For future uses, consider rinsing out the undies following wear (especially if you might not be washing them for a day or two). You can also give them a little soak in warm, but not hot, water with some gentle detergent before washing as usual.
Don't panic — a few cycles in the dryer won't hurt your period-absorbing underwear. However, repeated exposure to the heat from dryers or irons will affect the underwear's elasticity, which helps prevent leaks, so don't make it a habit!
Pro tip: Use a mesh laundry bag to separate them from your other clothes for easy removal from the wash while the rest goes in the dryer.
Follow our simple care instructions to keep your period-absorbing underwear at maximum performance. Replace them at 30 washes.
We know that some of our fibers do not decompose quickly into the soil — however, we’re proud to say that you *can* recycle our period underwear!

We aim to create underwear that champions and supports bodies throughout different stages of life. From your first period to post-menopause and all the leaks in between. We aim to empower our customers with sustainable solutions while breaking taboos around bladder leaks and menstruation.
We craft our underwear carefully and consciously, from sustainable manufacturing processes to ethical working conditions. We’re proud to work with MAS, a global leader in ethical manufacturing based in Sri Lanka. MAS operates under three pillars: products changed for good, our planet changed for good, and lives changed for good. Visit our Manufacturing page to learn more about how we make our underwear and the incredible people who make them!
Body literacy is understanding the body and its functions, so that we can be more empowered when it comes to our health and wellness. Without body literacy, there is a rise in misinformation, stigmas, and shame around our bodies and its normal functions. At Thinx, we believe in challenging societal stigmas and giving more people access to body education. That’s why we created GetBodyWise.
Menstrual equity refers to equal and comprehensive access to menstrual hygiene products and the right to reproductive health education. Thinx actively supports menstrual equity by offering educational content and partnering with like-minded organizations to bring leak protection products to communities that need them most. Through our GetBodyWise program, we're working to fight societal stigmas and help empower more people with body literacy.

Thinx Inc. is our parent company! Together our family of brands (Thinx for All Leaks, Thinx, and Thinx Teens) is committed to empowering *every body* with innovative solutions and social change.
Thinx Teens are machine-washable, reusable period-absorbing underwear for teens. Each pair is moisture-wicking, ultra-absorbent, and leak-resistant. Best of all, they come in full-coverage underwear styles and fun colors that fit teen bodies!
Thinx Teens are period-absorbing underwear made for teen body shapes and sizes. We designed Thinx underwear for periods for adult bodies (people who have already finished puberty), made with taller, curvier adult bodies in mind. Use our handy size chart to toggle between the brands to find the best underwear size for you. We recommend following the hip measurement, as most of our underwear styles sit on the hips. Be sure to measure the hips at their widest point, derriere included!
Thinx for All Leaks is washable and reusable underwear for bladder leaks — giving you a more sustainable alternative to single-use disposable products. Thinx for All Leaks features three layers of absorbent technology in the gusset: an innermost layer of moisture-wicking cotton, an ultra-absorbent inner lining, and an outermost layer that acts as a leak-resistant barrier. Learn more about our underwear for bladder leaks and how they work.
Thinx and Thinx for All Leaks are reusable, absorbent underwear designed to replace disposable products. They absorb leaks, control odors, and wick away moisture to keep you dry and comfortable. They look and feel like regular underwear so you can wear, wash, and reuse them. Thinx absorbs period flow, while Thinx for All Leaks is underwear for bladder leakage. The products' layer composition differs to handle the variations in pH and viscosity for different types of leaks.
We specifically designed Thinx for All Leaks to tackle the pH and viscosity of bladder leaks, which is lower than that of menstrual flow. If you experience light incontinence and your period, Thinx for All Leaks would be your best bet to prevent all your leaks. We don't recommend using our period underwear to protect against bladder leaks.
The construction of Thinx for All Leaks underwear for bladder leaks differs from Thinx, as do the underwear styles, so sizing is a bit different. Thinx includes industry-standard plus-sizing through 4X, while Thinx for All Leaks sizes extend to 5XL. We recommend following the hip measurement for both brands to find the most accurate size for you, as most of our underwear styles sit on the hips.
You deserve period products that give you the most comfort physically, mentally, and emotionally. All underwear in the Thinx family of brands has been certified based on the rigorous chemical safety requirements of the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® [20.HUS.04850 | HOHENSTEIN HTTI] since 2020 and now complies with the even more stringent OEKO-TEX® 100 Class II, Annexure IV, which includes meeting the requirements for Europe’s Regulation for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) [20.HUS.04850 | HOHENSTEIN HTTI]. Thinx underwear is not made with PFAS.
We also test our finished products through an accredited, globally recognized third-party laboratory to help ensure they are compliant with U.S. and international regulations. These tests also include absorbency capacity, usability, and wearability.

Thinx Inc. is our parent company!

Once a month, your body prepares for one egg to be fertilized. During this time, the lining of your uterus thickens around the egg. When you don’t become pregnant, your body sheds the built-up lining of the uterus that was prepared for the egg to be fertilized and releases the unfertilized egg. Menstrual blood and tissue flow from the uterus through the cervix and out of the body through the vagina. To learn more, check out our blog.
Your period is one phase of your menstrual cycle which typically lasts 21-45 days. The ~flow~ of blood and tissue you experience (aka your period!) happens about halfway through that cycle, roughly once a month and lasting, on average, 3 to 7 days. For more information on irregular periods, check out our blog.
The amount of blood that comes out of the cervix each month varies, but it can be anywhere from 4 tsp to 1 cup.
There are quite a few factors that can influence the color of your period blood, including your diet, hormone levels, and even stress. Check out our blog for the download on each shade of your flow.
PMS, or premenstrual syndrome, is often defined by the physical and emotional symptoms you may feel before you get your period. The fluctuation of estrogen and progesterone hormones is responsible for symptoms such as cramps, bloating, sore boobs, fatigue, moodiness, breakouts, diarrhea, nausea, headaches, irritability, mood swings, food cravings, anxiety, and more (fun, we know!). PMS symptoms often show up a few days before your flow begins and can function as helpful signs to let you know when to keep your period undies on hand!
